Wake

wake /wāk/ 1. To emerge from a state of sleep. 2. To hold a vigil beside (someone who has died). Like the double entendre of its title, Wake is one part of a two-spirited project, a film and a play. The film is a day in the life glimpse of a theatre company at work. As we peer into their artistic process, we learn that their work is largely centered on one theme: grief. The film features text from “Antigone” by Sophocles and “Kissing The Floor” by Ellen McLaughlin, with music music by Rinde Eckert. WAKE (the play) is written by Leon Ingulsrud, Brooke Shilling, & One Year Lease Theater Company. The premiere of WAKE is projected for October 2025 at 59E59 Theaters in New York City.
